What You're Actually Reducing

The pressure to rationalize headcount is everywhere, and AI makes the math look compelling. But what are you actually reducing when you cut?

AI optimizes what it can measure. So when leaders cut, they cut what's hardest to see: judgment, institutional knowledge, the human capacity that sits underneath your most consequential decisions. In its place, they reach for what's easiest to measure, usually AI activity itself. The cost shows up twice: in what was lost, and in what got elevated as a proxy for productivity.

This salon is a peer conversation for leaders making workforce, organizational, and strategic decisions in an AI environment. We'll examine what's being reduced when companies cut, what often replaces it, and what a deliberate approach looks like when the goal is durability, not just cost savings.
